How To Style Your Coffee Table

Your coffee table is such an important part of your living room. It’s more than just a surface to kick your feet up or place your coffee mug (cough, cough… glass of wine)! It can act as a focal point in the room and also help anchor your furniture pieces around it to make the room feel complete!

You never want to leave it boring and bare so today I’m sharing 5 tips to give your coffee table that WOW-FACTOR!

Play with heights and layering

Don’t be afraid to play with different heights and layering. Having some variety keeps things interesting! Think about stacking hard cover books with a plant on top, then pairing it with a tall candle right beside, or hanging a wood bead garland over the edge of a pretty dish. Stacking items (rather than just placing things side by side) creates a more pulled together look.

It’s all about the tray

Decorators agree that trays are a great piece to work with! They hold items for functional use while keeping the area looking styled. They’re easy to move out of the way for quick clean up if you simply need to use the table for your drinks. You can still layer décor pieces with them and they help to create some dimension to the coffee table. Use bigger trays for larger coffee tables or ottomans and avoid over filling the trays with too many small pieces… it will start to look cluttered.

Opt for plants and greenery

Adding these key pieces really helps to pull a styled area together and make it feel complete. Plants and greenery also give you that little pop of colour that every room needs, without overdoing it. Having fresh flowers or plants always gives the room some life… literally!

Mix surfaces and textures

Don’t be afraid to mix certain surfaces and textures together, this will help bring some depth to the coffee table and help is stand out as an intentional piece of decor, rather than just a functional surface. Texture in the decor pieces themselves also offers a much more visual interest!

Less is more

When in doubt, it’s better to go minimalistic rather than placing decor pieces without intention. Adding one or two large hardcover books with a single plant on top is just fine! If you’re feeling brave, add a decor piece next to the plant (and remember it should vary in size from the plant itself).

Et voila , there you have it… 5 of my TOP TIPS for staging your coffee tables don’t over think it… have fun and get creative!
